Our founder
Samina Akram, Managing Partner Samina Akram has extensive experience in investment, private and commercial banking. She has worked for Merrill Lynch International Bank, where she led the Islamic finance wealth management business, as well as Deutsche Bank, Barclays Bank, Toronto-Dominion Bank and National Bank of Dubai (Emirates NBD). A specialist in Islamic and ethical finance, Samina has long-established working relationships with governments, investment banks, corporate investors, trade organisations and senior industry executives. Her contributions to Islamic finance have earned her public recognition and multiple business awards. Her honours include: • The United Nations' Women's Federation for World Peace award • Numerous internal Merrill Lynch leadership awards • Shortlisting for the European Muslim Women of Influence list • Fifth place among the 20 most distinguished women in Islamic finance globally, as recognised by Islamic Finance Review (ISFIRE) • The Freedom of the City of London • Recognition in the 2023 WeAreTheCity Trailblazer 50 list, powered by HSBC Samina runs Samak Ethical Finance and founded the Women in Islamic & Ethical Finance Forum (WIEFF), which has more than 18,000 professional members from over 35 countries. She studied Philosophy and holds a master's degree in Psychology of Religion from Heythrop College, University of London.
