Global business alliances and relationship management
Samak maintains strong relationships with influential trade organisations and key international centres. Our network is supported by first-hand market experience, credibility and an established presence in these markets.
International market development
Over the past decade, Islamic finance has spread from the Middle East into financial centres across Asia, North America and Europe. Malaysia was the first to position itself as an Islamic finance hub. The GCC followed, with the UAE and Bahrain among the first to recognise the opportunity.
Malaysia has a critical mass of participants, including Islamic banks, investment banks and takaful companies. Bahrain is home to 10% of the world's Islamic banks. According to the Central Bank of Bahrain, Islamic finance's market share rose from US$1.9 billion in 2000 to US$25.4 billion by August 2012. Following Bahrain's successful market entry, other GCC states—including Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia—have caught up.
Indonesia's central bank is supporting the industry, with regulatory reforms under way to encourage growth. Hong Kong aims to become an Islamic finance hub and strengthen its position as a global financial centre. It has established a Shariah Advisory Council and is working to create an operational bond market.
The UK has taken an active interest in becoming an Islamic finance hub. It was the first EU member to authorise Islamic banks and has provided Islamic financial services for the past 30 years. The government has recently established a task force to promote the UK as a global hub.
Samak has market insight, strong relationships and an established presence in these markets and key international centres.
Relationships that support your business
Global reach is increasingly important. In recent years, leading organisations and centres have changed significantly at an operational level. Most investment banks and law firms, for example, have either ended or reduced their Islamic finance expertise, while new people have joined the sector.
Our consultants have worked in key international centres worldwide, giving Samak first-hand relationships and insight within these organisations. We help clients connect with appropriate stakeholders, partners and senior managers.
Samak offers:
• Introductions to external organisations, including arranging and participating in meetings
• Support for business development and for building organisational and individual expertise
